SO
YOU WANT TO BECOME A PILOT?
Lets start with some frequently asked questions.
|
WHAT'S
INVOLVED IN LEARNING TO FLY?
Ground study (ground school), in-flight instruction (flight training),
and practice. Flight training hours are divided between dual time
(with an instructor) and solo time (without an instructor). These
hours include night flying, instrument flying, and cross-country
experience. Ground school serves two purposes. One is to provide
a solid foundation of basic aviation knowledge. The other is to
prepare you to pass the FAA written knowledge exam. The exam is
a 60 question multiple choice test and must be passed with a score
of 70 percent or higher in order to qualify to take the private
pilot flight test.

WHAT
DOES THE PRIVATE PILOT COURSE HAVE IN IT?
The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flying time. At the
start of your training, all flying will be done in the local area.
After you have learned the basics, there will be cross-country
flights to different airports. The studying and written examination
preparation part of the course can be done at one of our ground
schools or on your own with the help from one of our instructors.
Ground schools are offered periodically throughout the year. Please
contact us for times and availability.

HOW
LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A PILOT?
It depends on you. With our training curriculum you learn as fast
as you like, because the training course is flexible and can fit
your schedule. Studies indicate that, nationwide, the average
student pilot will complete the requirements over a period of
four to seven months, while flying 50 to 60 hours in order to
attain the necessary proficiency. Depending on the pace of the
training, some people will complete the requirements sooner and
others will take longer.

WHAT
CAN I DO WITH A PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE?
Before you receive your private pilot certificate you will be
issued a student pilot certificate when you solo. The privileges
of your student pilot certificate allows you to fly solo under
instructor supervision (no passengers). A private pilot certificate
will allow you to fly an airplane and carry passenger and baggage,
although not for compensation or hire.

WHAT
IF I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION?
Before you solo you have to hold a third class medical certification.
That means you'll have to get a checkup from an aviation medical
examiner. The examiner can answer any questions you have about
your flight fitness. The fee is approximately $70.00. This medical
certificate becomes your student pilot certificate the day you
solo. Contact us for the aviation medical examiner nearest to
you.

WHERE
CAN I RENT AN AIRPLANE AFTER I GET MY LICENSE?
Just about any airport. Most flight schools, including Wolf Creek
Aviation, also rent airplanes to licensed pilots after a quick
check out for insurance purposes.
|
HOW
LONG IS EACH FLIGHT LESSON?
Our flight instructors will schedule lessons 7 days a week from
8:00am till sundown. Each lesson usually lasts one and a half
to two hours long and consists of ground instruction, flight instruction,
and review. It is suggested that two or three lessons be scheduled
per week if possible to complete the course in approximately four
months.
|
HOW
DO I KNOW I'LL LIKE FLYING?
The easiest way to find out is to come out and give it a try.
For about $35.00, you can take a thirty minute introductory flight.
This flight will permit you to actually fly the airplane under
the guidance of one of our certified flight instructors. It also
includes a preflight briefing and postflight question and answer
period.

HOW
ARE PAYMENTS MADE?
You may pay by lesson using cash, check, or credit card (we accept
visa and mastercard), or you may prepay any amount you wish so
as not to worry about payment each time you fly. Any prepayment
over the amount of $1000.00, Wolf Creek Aviation will add on an
additional 10% of that amount to be used for flying, books, or
anything else Wolf Creek offers for sale.
